Dec 13, 2015 The Longest Journey on Windows 10 - posted in Dreamfall Chapters Community Help: Is it possible to install The Longest Journey on Windows 10? And does the gameplay work? I know there are some patches that makes it compatible with Windows 7, but is anything working on Windows 10? I tried to install the old multi disk version, and it opens the first menu, but when I click install it does not work. You can run The Longest Journey with the ResidualVM daily builds with most bugs fixed including antialiasing problems, however be wary of any remaining issues. As of 2019, this so far remains the only way to run the game on OS X, Linux, and other operating.
In The Longest Journey, you can. And in order to save the precious Balance between worlds, between order and chaos, between science and magic, you must. The Longest Journey is an adventure through the twin worlds of Stark and Arcadia, seen through the eyes. Mar 21, 2016 Hi guys, Downloaded Longest Journey on Steam. Absolutely love it. So glad I found another classic point and click I never new existed. Had Windows 8 and it was fuzzy so turned of anti-aliasing, but since then I have downloaded Windows 10. Now it won't let me save over an original save file without crashing. It also crashes when I exit the game, and I have to do CTRL-ALT-DLT.

I replayed The Longest Journey like 3 months ago on Windows 8.1. without experiencing an issue except one which could be easily fixed with a rather 'clumsy' workarround.
The Game used to crash sometimes after playing the FMV? Cutscenes.
That problem was easily solved by just leaving a browser Window open in the background playing some around 24h HD Video on Youtube (most likely my graphic card powered down too low while playing that FMV cutscenes and then the game couldn't properly wake it anymore - and the YT video in the background avoids exactly that powering down). With the Youtube 'Fix' i could play the game without a single crash or issue and i completed it.
Windows 8.1. and Windows 10 are more or less similar systems and i just did a 15 minute Test of running The Longest Journey under Windows 10 and didn't experience any issue so my verdict is you should be fine and be able to run the game.
Cheers - and ya it's a nice game - i really enjoyed the recent playthrough and it kinda aged 'well'

I was wondering since Win10 does offer performance improvements and a redesigned graphic API, if it affected this game at all.

Trying to install the game to a virtual machine with Windows XP this problem is not present.
The game still is not compatible with wine.
Also, the translation in my language (italian) now is not compatible with gog version (I have no trouble understanding English but I would like to play it in my language, since I already finish it in english with the iOS version).
I dare say that the iOS version is better than the PC in this case.

They only advertise the game in English though so no mistake from GoG there and the game will be only playable in English (besides maybe downloading some 'fan patches' somewhere else - still sorry to hear that you assumed that you'll be able to get the Italian version.
Can't compare the GoG version to the IOS one as i never played the IOS one .
Same for Wine compatibility can't comment on that as i didn't test it.
Regarding the 'white screen' and press Y to exit on pressing 'quit' or N not to exit - i'm experiencing it here as well - under 8.1. and 10 - but didn't consider it a problem at all as it doesn't alter the game experience at all and game exists properly.

Gog has only promised the game in English, for Windows only.
(which I'm still good, I know enough English to understand the game and using a virtual machine it works).
In addition, 3 € for the DRM-free version and the music of the game are still been a good buy.
the problem was I didn't know how to exit.. I had to do a search because it is by no means automatic know.
the iOS version is really good compared to the original game, no bug, no problem, only they use a mouse=touch interation (so it's difficult to be precise).
regarding wine it happens, there are many games are 100% compatible but rarely happens that some is not.
the problem under wine is that the characters are invisible,
I going to have to do a reinstall on the computer tomorrow when the disks get here in the mail (long story) so I'll be starting over. Can anyone tell me if TLJ has been upgrade for W10? It looks so from the comments here. It's in my library from years back, How do I determine that? I was so happy to see that GOG has been working hard to get the games working in W10.. way to go GOG!!
I have a new 8.1 computer that got trashed, twice, by a Windows 10 push. So I have decided to immediately upgrade to W10 after the reinstall. But I do enjoy playing my old games, and I'm really looking forward to playing TLJ again.
Thanks for your consideration. JJ
Now you can find a wineskin (mac version of wine) that work for this game:

1) Win10x64 (Most compatible of all by a noticeable margin)
2) Win8.1x64 (Slightly less compatible than Win10 with older games)
3) Win7 x64 Noticeably less compatible with older games than Win8.1, and much less compatible with them than Win10x64.
Yes, GOG is doing a super job getting its older titles updated for Win10--and so is Microsoft--and it is noticeable! Surprisingly so, imo. 99 times out of 100, if someone is having difficulty with Win10 and a game, it's most likely going to be a driver problem (GPU, sound card, etc.)
As to your GOG version, it will definitely work fine under Win10! If you haven't upgraded your GOG game version in awhile then you'll want to start fresh with a new download and a new installation--I guarantee you the present GOG library install package is different if yours is more than 6-12 months old. I always keep my GOG setup files for each game in a separate library (So I'll have them even if the Internet goes down locally for me for some reason--or GOG gets nuked, or some other horrific tragedy should strike..if you happen to have your original setup files then just compare them to the current setup files, etc.)
This is a great source for some fixes you may or may not need, etc.:

---Windows 10 ought not ever trash anyone's install during the upgrade process, but I'd start with the Win10 DVD you have do an *upgrade install* right from that disk--just copying the ISO image to a hard-drive and then mounting the image file under Win8 works really well for the upgrade install to Win10, btw. It depends on whether you want to do an upgrade install or a clean install of Windows 10--it's your choice, but I'd recommend a clean install of Win10, and from there you can easily *upgrade install* to the latest Win10 build (Anniversary Edition, etc.) But a new, official release of the next major Win10 version is due in just a few weeks--but upgrading to that will be a snap when it's released (and free of course--however you obtained your original Win10 version, whether you bought it or got it free during the free-upgrade period, all upgrades from there to future versions of Win10 are *free* for the life of your computer.)

Good luck..! No problems here with WIn10 and any of the games I own--completely happy--and I'm on the beta build of Windows 10, build 15031, which is almost the build that will constitute the new *official version* release a just a few weeks--March or April.
