I recently installed Windows Media Player 11 on my laptop which has Windows XP. The music plays fine. However, I noticed on k2demo288.asf that the video portion was not correct.

I then downloaded the Windows XP codec installation package from Microsoft’s website:

In attempting to install it, though, I got the following error message:

I later downloaded the K-lite Codec Pack Basic as well as the K-Lite Codec Pack Standard after looking up the website(s) on scamadviser.com. The basic worked better than the standard so I removed the latter. However, the demo .asf file still doesn't display the video portion correctly.

I would appreciate it if Microsoft would provide users a full codec that works with Windows Media Player 11 and Windows XP.

FYI, I have been careful about my downloads after downloading software from cnet which had viruses and malware. I had to reformat two hard drives.
